Thursday, April 29th: Irish Sean-Nós Singers in 19th Century Pennsylvania: the Rev. Daniel J. Murphy Archive. Dr. Deirdre Ní Chonghaile shares the story of Rev. Daniel J. Murphy from Sligo and J.J. Lyons from Galway, who transcribed over 1,200 sean-nós songs from Irish speakers in Philadelphia and the anthracite region of Northeastern Pennsylvania from 1884 to the 1920s. This event is part of "The Ambassador's Hour" series, a collaboration with the American Conference of Irish Studies (ACIS) to profile important new work by Irish studies scholars in the United States.
