The Textiles, Fashion and Design team in St. Angela’s are delighted to announce that three BA PME Yr. 4 St. Angela’s students have been selected as finalists in the Golden Egg, Irish Fashion Innovation awards in the Galmont Hotel in Galway on Thursday the 17th September.
The students will compete alongside students from fashion colleges from all over Ireland for the prestigious Student Designer of the Year award. This year’s brief was “Finding the extraordinary in the ordinary classic cuts as the basis for new fashion hits.” 80’s fashions inspired Adele Brazil’s designs of a classic denim jacket which was entirely upcycled from old pairs of jeans and updated with a large hand embroidered motif. Aoife Stafford’s dress is a retake of a classic 1940’s style with computer aided applique on the halter neck bodice and Elsa Stewart’s design is a traditional fitted dress transformed to milkmaid style by a dramatic puffed sleeve.

The Awards are a unique date in the fashion diary that provide a nationwide platform to emerging and established Irish designers. Other categories of awards on the night will include; fashion, millinery, accessories, jewelry, ones to watch and innovation awards winner. If last year’s show is anything to go by it promises to be an exciting event hosted by Golden Egg productions. Adele, Elsa and Aoife are delighted to have been chosen as finalists and are looking forward to attending the show with their families, fellow students and staff of St. Angela’s.
