Lily Lolly Fine art and Craft Festival at St. Angela's College 2019

The Textiles, Fashion and Design team in St. Angela’s College have organised a number of textile craft workshops as part of the Lily Lolly Fine Art and Craft Festival 2019. This is a celebration of the legacy of embroiderer Susan and printer and watercolourist Elizabeth Yeats, affectionately known as Lily and Lolly. The festival provides an opportunity to learn more about the history of craft in Ireland and encourages participants to increase their skills through a series of craft workshops, talks and events. It also promotes artists and craft workers in the region through a series of exhibitions.

On the 12th and 14th of June graduates of St. Angela’s College, BA in Textiles, Fashion and Design with Business Management and Creative Textiles, Angela Lavin and Liz Sheridan are facilitating workshops on the art of fabric manipulation and Boro Mending, using stitching on upcyclable fabrics to create surfaces with texture, colour and design.

Textile Artist Catherine Gray will be introducing participants of her workshop on the 11th June to the technique of hand-making material from painted/ printed and stitched fabrics and paper, whilst New York based designer Ann Hamilton will be revealing her processes of upcycling pre-worn garments into contemporary styles on the 12th June.

The festival is supported by the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland amongst other sponsors and is in its sixth year. Lily Lolly Yeats Festival runs in collaboration with Yeats Day Festival 13-16th June, 2019 & Yeats Society Sligo.
