Head of Home Economics appointed to Healthy Ireland Council

Dr. Anne Taheny, President of St. Angela’s College extended her congratulations to Ms McCloat on this prestigious appointment. “This is a significant appointment recognising the importance of Home Economics as a discipline in supporting education on health and well-being of individuals, families and communities.’ The inaugural meeting of the Healthy Ireland Council was held on the 26th of June.
Ms McCloat is the Head of the Home Economics at St Angela’s College, Sligo, a Department that offers a number of undergraduate programmes that focus on education for well-being including the Bachelor of Education in Home Economics and the Bachelor of Applied Science in Food and Business Management. The Department also offers Ireland’s only Masters in Education in Home Economics. Ms McCloat holds an MA in Education and M.Sc in Food Policy. Her research interests include food education and policy, cooking skills and education for sustainable development and is currently involved in national and European funded research project in these areas.
