Monday 21st  January 2013: For students passionate about pizza or smitten by stir fries, safefood and St. Angela’s College, Sligo have today launched a call for entries to a great schools cookery competition to get their tastebuds tingling. Takeaway  My Way is a fun competition which challenges post primary students to take on their takeaway by cooking a healthier version of their favourite takeaway dish.
Launching the competition, Fiona Gilligan, Director, Marketing & Communications safefood said, “Learning to cook and eat healthily are skills that can last students a lifetime and we would encourage all students, whether studying home economics or not, to grab an apron, pick their favourite takeaway dish, show us their passion for food and enter the competition.”
Now in its third year, the competition is open to all post-primary school students on the island of Ireland including students in Youthreach centres. Entering the competition couldn’t be easier – students can submit their recipe online at www.safefood.eu/takeawaymyway or complete and return by post the entry form sent to their school.
The closing date for entries is 22nd February 2013 and 32 finalists representing Junior and Senior categories will have the chance to cook their dish at the all island finals in May for a panel of judges including Neven Maguire. Competition prizes include iPads, vouchers for cooking equipment and an exciting class trip to Neven Maguire’s cookery school.
