The Science Programme community outreach initiative: supporting students and future teachers

On 17th January the Science Programme at St. Angela’s College, Sligo offered demonstrations of the mandatory practicals in Leaving Certificate Biology to a variety of local schools. The current third year Biology students in the Bachelor of Education programme ran through these practicals’ with over 195 students. ‘This community programme has a dual purpose,’ explains Dr Louise Mylotte, Biology Lecturer, ‘The programmes assists Leaving Certificate Biology students who are busy preparing for their mock exams along with our future Biology teachers who are preparing for their practice teaching placements.’ The College offers many community outreach initiatives throughout the year with both primary and secondary schools in the region, some of which are part of the Access Schools Programme.
