St. Angela's Students Create a Flock of 400 Textile Birds for Craft Fest North West

St Angela’s College students and staff are holding ‘Textile Bird Making’ and Cup Cake decorating workshops in St. Angela’s college; Johnston’s Court and Tobergal Lane as part of Craft Fest North West. ‘We hope to create a flock of 400 textile birds to celebrate 400 years of Sligo Borough Council and to have flash mobs of the birds in various locations in Sligo during Craft Fest North West’ says Ursula O’Shea from the Textiles, Fashion and Design team. 400 Birds will be set free to add to the Sligo Borough 400 celebrations, these have been created by St. Angela’s students and volunteers from throughout the town and county.
Sligo trees get a great big snuggle from Craftfest Northwest again this year from Thursday 8th November to Sunday 11th November, as they are decorated with knitting, crochet and flocks of fabric birds. Art exhibitions, craft workshops, demonstrations and a chance to ‘View or Do’ are all part of the festival celebration of craft. �You can be part of it by coming along to any of the workshops during Thursday, Friday and Sunday countywide and in Sligo town on Saturday all day. All workshops are FREE however BOOKING is essential.
Craftfest Northwest is a chance for people of all ages to have fun learning or re-learning a craft in a creative way for FREE, whether taking part in a workshop activity, viewing an exhibition or just enjoying the quirky street displays of craftwork.� Crafts people love company too, so why not join one of the events or get together with some friends and get your hands working for Craftfest Northwest 2012. Not to be missed a display of secondary school entrants to the ‘Create your own Bird’ competition will bring a smile to your face in Johnstons Court on Saturday.
Craftfest Northwest will be launched in The Atrium of Nazareth Care Village at 6pm on Thursday by John Tynan, Head of Education, Training and Skills, at the Craft Council of Ireland. The exhibition ‘Seascapes’ will also be officially opened in this venue, featuring textile work by members of CCOI.
Muireann Charleton, Education and Innovation Manager of CCOI gives a masterclass on the subject of ’what is Craft the myth of making” in the conference room at Atrium, Nazareth Care Village where you can look forward to a healthy debate on the subject of Craft.�
Craftfest Northwest will stimulate you to use the skills you already have and to have fun being creative.
