Certificate and Diploma in Fashion Design - Closing Date Extended to 20th September 2011

St Angela’s College, Sligo offers University-level education accredited by NUI Galway under the academic departments of Home Economics, Education and Nursing/Health Studies.
The Certificate and Diploma programmes in Fashion Design are NFQ level 7 qualifications developed by the Textiles, Fashion and Design Team to meet the needs of adult learners who have existing skills in fashion design, construction and presentation and who wish to further their skills and competencies in this area while developing a business plan for a new fashion product or enterprise.  Participants become competent in researching and developing designs and constructing garments to meet a project brief. In doing so, they learn the necessary skills to build and present a collection while also developing and refining their business expertise with a view to launching and managing new ventures/products.
2010-2011 is the first year of the Diploma in Fashion Design at St. Angela’s. The first students on the Diploma programme will be showing their work in the Sligo craft shop ‘The Cat and The Moon’ from the 16th of July to the middle of August. They will be on a placement with Fashion Design companies during July and August and will graduate in October. They are also currently in the process of developing their own enterprises.
Anna Vahey is one of the course tutors in St. Angela’s College and the students benefit greatly from her design expertise and experience in the fashion business. Anna is a handbag designer from Sligo who has her own label, Annafaye. She won the Showcase ‘Best New Product’ award and the ‘Best New  Fashion, Knitwear and Accessories Category’ award for her work in 2009 and currently teaches pattern cutting and fashion illustration on the Diploma programme. There is also an excellent design team in St. Angela’s including Marie Martin, Kathryn Mc Sweeney and Helen Maguire. The Marketing Module, delivered by Ronan Mc Art, complements the practical components of the programme and provides a theoretical foundation and practical information on marketing within the fashion industry.
St. Angela’s also offers a Certificate and Diploma NFQ level 7 in Creative Textiles.
Funding of 20% is available towards these courses subject to meeting acceptance criteria.
Further information and application forms on these courses at St. Angela’s can be obtained at the programme's details page here or by contacting the course co-ordinator, Ursula O’Shea at uoshea@stangelas.nuigalway.ie
