Public Talk on Osteoporosis as the College celebrates Science Week

St. Angela’s College, Sligo will celebrate National Science Week from the 7th to 14th of November with a public lecture by Michele O’Brien of the Irish Osteoporosis Society. This public talk will take place on Wednesday 10th of November from 7:00- 8:00pm in the Virginia Henderson Lecture Theatre located in the Áras Michael building at St. Angela’s College.
‘The theme of the Science Week public lecture is Osteoporosis: Everything you Need to Know,’ explains Dr Anne Taheny, President of St. Angela’s College, Sligo, ‘We are delighted to welcome Michele O’Brien to present information and stimulate discussion on a topical health issue.’ Dr Taheny noted that the purpose of the lecture is to dispel the myths of osteoporosis as an “old woman’s disease,” offering the audience correct facts on how it affects both genders and all age groups including children. Following the lecture the College invites attendees to an informal reception, providing attendees with an opportunity to ask questions. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Michele O’Brien is the National Health Promotion Manager with the Irish Osteoporosis Society and offers public presentation extensively across the country. ‘This lecture will appeal to healthcare professionals, teachers, students, parents and community groups along with those affected by osteoporosis or arthritic diseases,’ explains Dr Michelle McGarraghy, Director of Science Programmes at St. Angela’s College, Sligo. ‘Science Week is an ideal time to promote science at the College and in the region, encouraging young people to consider Science as a subject that opens career paths and exciting opportunities.’
St. Angela’s College offers a range of programmes that include science as an integral component: Bachelor of Education in Home Economics with Biology, Bachelor of Nursing Science programmes and Masters in Health Science.
