This is an interesting and challenging programme aimed at nurses who wish to work in the community setting as a public health nurse. The Public Health Nurse has a unique role in recognising the wider determinants of individual, family and community health and in facilitating maximum health potential. Nursing in the community involves the consideration and enablement of health care needs, with the public health nurse utilising both a clinical and public health focus of care. Primary care is integral to community nursing practice and the changes in, and development of, primary care services, offers new opportunities and challenges for the development of the public health nursing profession. This programme aims to prepare students to competently meet the complex health care needs of the community as client.
