The first intake of students to the new NUI Galway Bachelor of Arts (Environment and Society/Youth and Family Studies) programme arrived on campus at St. Angela’s College, Sligo on Monday 14th September. This three year interdisciplinary programme has been developed in response to the demand for programmes focusing on two key areas of concern for modern society, namely, (i) environment and society and (ii) youth and family issues.  The first two years of the programme are run at, and in association with, St. Angela’s College, Sligo, which is a College of NUI Galway since 2006. Students take the final year of the programme at NUI Galway. 

Year one of the programme operates on a shared platform of relevant modules drawn from the disciplines of Economics, Sociology, Politics, and Information Technology. Students also take introductory modules in Environment and Society and Youth and Family.  Students then specialise in either (i) Environment and Society or (ii) Youth and Family Studies in the Second and Final Year of the programme.  The programme addresses pressing issues in modern society and provides a basis for an excellent and diverse range of postgraduate and career opportunities across the disciplinary areas.
