Lecturing Duties

  • Teaching such assigned classes as deemed appropriate by the management of the College, day or evenings
  • Carrying out a clinical role overseeing the clinical learning environment and the teaching and assessment process
  • Providing group and individual students tutorial and academic support
  • Developing links with the community and contributing academically through community involvement
  • Carrying out assessment and examinations work
  • Monitoring student progress and providing academic and consultative support to students in their learning activities
  • Providing academic input on existing and new courses, course development and co-ordination
  • Engaging in research, consultancy and development work, as appropriate, in line with agreed College priorities
  • Participating in committees appropriate to courses and meetings convened by management
  • Participating in appropriate activities necessary to the development of their department/school and of the College
  • Maintaining appropriate records and making available information as required by management
  • Engaging in promotion and student recruitment as appropriate
  • Participating in the development, implementation and maintenance of academic quality assurance arrangements.



Essential Criteria:

  • Registered in the General Division of the live register for nurses maintained by An Bord Altranais;
  • Clinical experience in a relevant field of nursing;
  • Possession of a Masters degree in Nursing;
  • Teaching experience in community and/or in higher education institution settings;
  • Commitment to the academic/professional development of subject/discipline;
  • Commitment to research within healthcare;
  • Strong computer literacy including MS Word, Excel, Power-point;
  • Organizational skills;
  • Excellent networking skills.


Desirable criteria:

  • Registered as a Nurse Tutor with NMBI;
  • Dual registration on the live register;
  • Familiarity with university assessment systems;
  • Teaching qualification;
  • Curriculum development experience;
  • Experience with quality assurance mechanisms;
  • A track record of research publications/conference presentations.



Salary for the post will be based on St Angela's College Lecturer salary scale - €46,604 - €82,217 p/a.



The successful candidate will be based in the Department of Nursing and Health Studies at St. Angela's College, Lough Gill, Sligo.
