Hours of Work:                 7.30am – 3.00pm, Monday – Friday; occasional weekend work required

St. Angela’s College are currently recruiting for a Catering Supervisor to lead, manage and further develop the College’s Canteen Services ensuring the highest standard of service delivery. This is a hands-on role in a busy canteen environment that caters to staff, students and visitors.

Duties & Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Finance Manager, the responsibilities for the post-holder will include the following:

  • Lead the catering team and support them to maintain the highest standards of service, ensuring that these standards are consistently achieved
  • Communicate and co-operate effectively and flexibly with staff in other areas of the College with regards to facilitating catering needs
  • Supervise all normal duties associated with the catering function including assisting with the planning, set-up and service of any functions or specialist catering that the College may require
  • Operate, and supervise the operation of, the cash tills and ensure that all cashiering policies and procedures are followed.
  • Take responsibility for the cash when required, and exercise care in terms of security of cash, stock and property at all times
  • Comply with the College’s financial procedures including budgeting and PO processes
  • Regularly review the service provision of the Canteen in line with customer demands whilst ensuring optimum efficiencies are achieved in a cost-effective manner.
  • Endeavour to identify additional income streams for the canteen.
  • Ensure that superior levels of food and beverage service is available to customers and that food stock is displayed in a presentable fashion while monitoring food quality and quantity as it relates to portion control and perform stock-takes as required.
  • Implementing and maintaining the highest standards in food hygiene, service & presentation.
  • Ensure that all catering staff work in compliance with the HACCP regulations and Health & Safety legislation
  • Take a pro-active role in promoting the Canteen and encourage feedback from customers in an effort to continually strive for excellence in service
  • Maintain high levels of customer care on site, ensuring the highest possible standards from staff in presentation and quality of food and beverages served.
  • Ensure that all customers (Staff, Students and visitors) are treated in a professional, polite and efficient manner at all times.
  • Management of catering staff including management of staff roster, annual leave, sick leave, approval of timesheets etc.
  • Be vigilant in matters of equality and good staff working relations by ensuring that all catering staff are treated fairly and equally at all times
  • Supervise and assist with restocking the area with all requirements in relation to food, cleaning and utensils
  • Oversee general cleaning in the Dining room, stores and kitchen area, in addition to other areas where catering might be required within the college
  • Check delivery vehicles and personnel to enforce the HACCP regulations
  • Available to work flexible hours and days as demand requires including weekends or times which might be considered normal holiday periods at Christmas, Easter, and Summer Season Attend training courses made available by the management to enhance the skills required for the position

Role Requirements

The successful candidate will possess some or all of the following qualifications, knowledge, skills, and attributes:

  • 5 years+ experience in a similar role
  • Third level qualification (Certificate/Diploma/Degree) in a relevant area is advantageous
  • Certification and strong working knowledge of HACCP and relevant H&S regulations
  • Experience of stock management and rostering is essential
  • Experience of budgeting, cash management and raising managing purchase orders
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills with demonstrated ability to build close working relationships and engagement with key stakeholders
  • Excellent managerial skills with an ability to manage, motivate and support staff
  • Drive and adaptability to ensure customer demands are met within the Catering budget
  • Computer literacy (ECDL is advantageous)


The salary scale corresponding to the post is €24,767 - €38,339 (new entrants).


The post will be based at St. Angela's College, Lough Gill, Sligo and some assignments will require attendance at other sites.
