St Angela’s accommodation options for students

St Angela’s College students are responsible for arranging their own accommodation and are advised to read carefully all details of the contract and code of conduct before signing.  Student Services offers an advisory service on housing issues.  Email Student's Services Officer Una Roberts: uroberts@stangelas.nuigalway.ie or phone 071 9195514 for help with accommodation queries.

Accommodation

  • St Angela's Student Residences (SASR)
    At Angela’s Student Residences offers high quality accommodation with the support of a student community and the convenience of residence adjacent to the College Campus. Use of the Residences' Gymnasium facilities and full broadband access are included in the rental price. The residences are Section 50, PRTB and BER compliant in every particular.
    St Angela's Student Residences is owned and managed independently of the College.

  • Other Accommodation
    Accommodation offers (rooms, digs, house shares) are phoned and emailed through to the Student Services Office May-August.  These details are then emailed to all registered students and also posted on a notice board in the College next to the Canteen.  These offers of accommodation are also posted on the St Angela’s SU Facebook accommodation page

    • St Angela’s College has not checked any accommodation and you should satisfy yourself that it is suitable before entering into any agreements with a landlord.
    • St Angela’s College does not enter into disputes between landlord and tenant.
    • All accommodation is owned and managed privately.

Term time Bus Service to/from St Angela’s College

  • Daily bus service to/from St Angela’s College:
    St Angela’s College provides a subsidised shuttle bus service morning and evening, to enable students to get out to the College and to return to Sligo.  The cost is 2 per journey.  The bus also travels into Sligo at lunchtime.
    Any accommodation which is advertised as close to Sligo IT, will be convenient for the bus to St Angela’s College.  The bus starts in town in Markievicz Road (opposite Ulster Bank) and continues out to Cartron, then back along Clarion road (along the back entrance to Sligo IT) picking up students staying at Clarion Village and the Grove apartments.  It calls at Yeats Village apartments and Ard Nua, before continuing out to St Angela’s college.

Renting Accommodation: Your Rights

  • Rent Book: You are entitled to a Rent Book if you are in self-catering accommodation, and you should request one from your landlord.
  • Threshold: Know Your Rights and Responsibilities as a Tenant, check out the following website: www.threshold.ie
  • Private Residential Tenancies Board  The ‘PRTB’ was set up by the government and provides useful information to both landlords and tenants regarding their rights. All landlords should register their tenancies with the ‘PRTB’, check out their website for further details: www.prtb.ie
  • Building Energy Rating: From the 1st of January 2009 a BER certificate is compulsory for all homes being rented. If you are renting a house or apartment now, you are entitled to a BER so do ask the landlord or their agent for it.

When Renting Accommodation - Check the following:

  • Bus Service  Is your accommodation close to a St Angela’s College bus stop?
  • Viewing  Always ensure that you have viewed the property before signing a lease or paying a deposit.
  • Deposit  Check that any deposit you are asked to pay is refundable, and also the conditions applying to the refund. Get a receipt for your deposit and all future rent payments.
  • Conditions  Check that the accommodation is clean and habitable.
  • Electricity  Check out arrangements for the payment of electricity Is there a meter or a bill? Who pays the bill?
  • Broadband check if broadband is included in the rent - or do organize that yourself?
  • Heating  Is there any? How much does it cost? Remember that a house, which seems warm in September, may be very cold in November.
  • Refuse  What are the collection arrangements and who pays the cost?
  • Inventory  Before moving into a new property, both you and your landlord should make a list of all furniture and appliances in the property. This list should detail the current state of all items in the property, and should be signed by both of you. If there are any queries regarding damage to items when reclaiming your deposit on departure, this can be used as a valuable reference guide.
