CSENID - Research - Our Mission and Priorities

CSENID is a dynamic centre with a strong research focus striving to undertake high quality research contributing to the development and enhancement of education policy and practice in the area of SEN, inclusion and diversity both nationally and internationally.  Academic staff within CSENID are dedicated to conducting and highlighting research which contributes to a greater understanding of some of the key educational challenges that face professionals, parents, young people, children and educational policy-makers particularly in the area of SEN.
Aligned with St. Angela’s Strategic plan for research, CSENID fosters a strong research development and enterprise culture. It aims to devise strategies to support a research and development culture in the area of SEN, inclusion and diversity, support and encourage research activity by students and aims to seek and engage in collaborative research and development projects. In particular, CSENID’s research objectives include:

  • To carry out research in the area of special education, inclusion and diversity to assist in the development of policy advice on special education
  • To disseminate to schools, parents and other appropriate stakeholders, information relating to best practice in the education of children, young people and adults with special educational needs.
  • To promote educational cohesion, good relations, respect for diversity and inclusion
  • Realise the rights of children, young people and adults with SEN through evidence based research
  • To improve the social and educational outcomes for all learners with SEN
