Quality And Healthcare Management
Course Code: INT13
Entry Requirements:

This module will not run in academic year 2018-19

 

Be a registered nurse on the Register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.

OR

Be registered on the appropriate allied health professional Register*

AND

Be currently employed in healthcare or social care, either in: clinical practice/management/ research /education. Some modules may only be undertaken while working in a specific discipline related area such as nursing. This is specified in modules descriptions.

        Applicants will normally have gained:

A primary degree (health science/studies or social science/studies related) level 8 or evidence of equivalent academic credits. Students who do not have the aforementioned will be required to compile a portfolio to provide evidence of their ability to study at post-graduate level.

International students will require a degree of fluency in the English language. An overall score of 7 in the IELTS Exam (http://www.ielts.org/ for information on IELTS tests) is required.

 If you have not undertaken formal study for some time and are concerned regarding your academic study and writing skills, you are strongly advised to undertake the access module (Academic Writing and Learning Skills Module - available through the Centre for Lifelong Learning) prior to attempting any standalone module.

This module may also be relevant to non-clinical health services managers across acute and primary care areas.

Credits from standalone modules can be accrued towards the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (Nursing Studies/Professional Studies or Healthcare Quality Studies).

Many of our stand-alone modules are delivered through blended learning/e-learning allowing you the option of studying at your own pace in your own home

Programme Overview

The aim of this module is to furnish students with the knowledge and skills to analyse the quality management functions within the Irish health service; critique the Irish and European legislation and Policy context for quality in health care and appraise the systems and structures required to ensure the effective utilisation of all relevant health information in relation to policy making, service planning and the management and administration of health services with regard to quality. The key elements of clinical governance and the structures, systems and processes required to incorporate clinical governance within health care organizations is also an integral part of the module.

Blended Learning (e-learning and College attendance)

Course work & participation in on-line discussions. Examples of coursework include essays; literature reviews; development of posters; portfolios; group presentations
