Entry Requirements:

Applicants must be registered (full without conditions) as a post primary teacher with the Teaching Council at the time of application in another subject area and hold a level 8 Honours Degree including a recognised post primary teaching qualification.


Duration:

This is a 1 ½ full time programme of study.

Year 1 (September 2018 – June 2019)

On campus in St Angela’s Sligo

Year 2 (September 2019 – January 2020)

Blended (Online and some face to face)

Fees (euro):

Fees for the full time course are as follows:

Year 1 (September 2018 – May 2019): €7500

Year 2 (September 2019 – January 2020): €3750

Please note the following:

  • Student places for 2018/2019 is capped at maximum of 16 students
  • Students will be shortlisted based on their application submitted and depending on the number of applicants, may be called for interview
  • The College reserve the right to deem candidates suitable for entry into the Programme
  • Students commencing the course will be required to purchase cutlery kit and protective clothing for food studies laboratory; protective coat for Science; sewing machine for textiles. Full details on all of these requirements will be sent out in advance of registration.

Programme Overview

NEW Programme – Professional Diploma in Home Economics

Are you a registered post primary teacher but always wanted to teach Home Economics? The aim of the Professional Diploma in Home Economics is to provide an opportunity for existing teachers of other subjects to acquire the qualification required to register as a teacher of Home Economics.

On successful completion of the programme graduates will be able to apply to the Teaching Council for recognition as a teacher of Home Economics.

The Professional Diploma in Home Economics aims to facilitate existing teachers to develop the knowledge, skills, understanding, attitudes and values required to teach Home Economics at post primary level. It is a 90ECTs programme with a practical and theoretical focus.

Career Opportunities

On the successful completion of the programme graduates will be able to apply to the Teaching Council for recognition as a teacher of Home Economics.
