Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma in Special Educational Needs (Autistic Spectrum Disorders) Level 9
This is a specialist qualification and will enable graduates to effectively meet the needs of students with ASDs. It is a progression pathway to a Master of Arts in SEN (ASDs)
1 or 2 year, part-time (September to May)
All elements within each module are funded by the teacher Education Section of the Department of Education and Skills through the SESS. Students are required to pay €300 per module.
The programme is offered in collaboration with the Special Education Support Service (SESS) and the Department of Education and Skills (DES) for registered teachers of students with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASDs). The programme will develop teachers knowledge, understanding and skills in working with students with autistic spectrum disorders.
Students may choose to access the programme at either Certificate or Diploma level over a two-year time period.
Postgraduate Certificate Modules are:
Understanding Autistic Spectrum Disorders (Core module) and
Assessment, Planning and Curricular Access or
Postgraduate Diploma Modules are:
Understanding Autistic Spectrum Disorders
Assessment, Planning and Curricular Access
Self-Management and Behaviour
Students who successfully complete the Certificate level may progress to the Diploma level. Successful completion of two additional modules together with the necessary course work will lead to an award of a Postgraduate Diploma in Special Educational Needs (ASDs).
Graduates of this programme also have the option to pursue a Master of Arts in Special Education Needs (ASD) also offered by St. Angela's College.
