The social, cultural and religious context within which Religious Education now takes place within the island of Ireland has changed considerably within the second half of the twentieth century. Changing patterns of Church affiliation and practice, the development of Irish society as increasingly secular yet also interfaith and the pressing urgency of global inter-religious relations all contribute to provide both challenges and opportunities for Religious Education within Ireland in the twenty first century.
