Challenging Behaviour (Education)
Course Code: CSEN03
Award:

Students may choose to complete just one module and will receive credits for that (15 ECTS).

Alternatively, students who complete two modules (30 ECTS) from the list of modules (see Programme Overview) may exit with an Award of Postgraduate Certificate.

Students exiting with four modules (60 ECTS) will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma while those who complete an MA year may exit with an Master of Arts in Professional Studies in SEN or a Master of Arts in Specific Learning Difficulties.

Entry Requirements:

Undergraduate degree or equivalent
Entry onto MA year requires applicants to have attained at least a H2.2 at Postgraduate Level

An entry requirement for the Masters Programme is that one must have completed the blended learning Module on Educational Research Methods as one of the four Post-Graduate Diploma Modules.


Duration:

Challenging Behaviour is due to commence on 2nd October 2017 (Choose one only) – workshop date is Saturday, 7th October 2017.

 

Fees (euro):

€900 per module

Application Process:

By application form - closing date for receipt of applications is 17th May 2017. Due to the large volume of applications in recent months, it is strongly advised to apply as soon as you have decided on your preferred option as places will be awarded on a first come basis.

Programme Overview

This module aims to enable participants to acquire a thorough professional knowledge and understanding of Challenging Behaviour, including theoretical and conceptual dimensions and equip them with the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to be effective in supporting the education of those with Challenging Behaviour in various contexts. Participants will be enabled to develop an holistic and systemic approach to meeting the needs of individuals with Challenging Behaviour.

Student may choose from the following list of modules:

  1. Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASDs)
  2. Challenging Behaviour (CB)
  3. Educational Research Methods
  4. General Learning Disabilities (GLDs)
  5. Inclusion for Learning
  6. Literacy
  7. Numeracy
  8. Specific Learning Difficulties 1 (SLD 1) – Communication, Speech and Language Difficulties and Dyslexia
  9. Specific Learning Difficulties 11 (SLD 11)- Dyscalculia, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Dyspraxia/Developmental Coordination Disorder

 

The module will enable participants to acquire a thorough professional knowledge and understanding of Challenging Behaviour, including theoretical and conceptual dimensions and to equip them with the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to be effective in supporting the education of those with Challenging Behaviour in various contexts. Participants will be enabled to develop a holistic and systemic approach to meeting the needs of individuals with Challenging Behaviour. The module is delivered using online components as well as face-to-face workshops.
